Sci-fi conventions for sound.

Above shows the sound conventions for the genre sci-fi, I have chosen six main sounds that are used in most sci-fi films. First alien noises are used without even showing the alien, building the intense/ scared atmosphere.

Gun shots are normally heard which is the defense mechanism as the human are out to destroy the aliens evading Earth.

Whispers in the darkness when in hiding again creates fear of the unknown and adds different sounds contrast to the gun shots.

Crying/heavy breathing adds tension and creates fear for the viewers.

Space ships/ galaxy sounds of space.

Explosions of the aliens destroying Earth, loud sounds from houses, towns and cities being destroyed.

Like I researched for Sci-fi I found six common sound conventions that are often see within the genre of thriller. Firstly the noise of cars and the protagonist being chased and the sound of the motor speeding, escaping through difficult situations.

Crying is another diegetic sound, adding realism to the plot of an escapism film.

Shouting depending on the plot of the film there is often the sound of people shouting at one another, through either fear or anger.

Non diegetic sounds, mainly instrumental music is played in the background to create a more intense atmosphere within the film, for example the likes of Jaws.

Like in Sci-fi guns are also heard in a range of genres and thriller is one of them.

Screaming is always added within thriller as it not only adds tension but makes the viewers feel or understand how that character really feels.
