Difference between teaser and theatrical trailers.
Teaser trailers and Theatrical trailers.
Teaser trailers are released at rather an early stage within the production of the movie, they lasts for over a minute and a half or can be often see to be under that time frame. A teaser trailer it is a build up towards the theatrical trailer which lasts for two minutes to two minutes and half. Teaser trailers normally never displays the date of which the movie will be released- however the month or season is shown, this is to not only excite fans but to pre-warm and ensure that they remember what month they are able to see the film. Without a date written it becomes frustrating but in a positive manner as the audience can not wait to discover what date the movie is playing in cinemas, this creates a hype for the movie.
By having a teaser trailer a chain reaction almost takes place, word of mouth spreads and people share the trailer with friends and family, therefore the movie is given a good reputation and the number of people watching the film will increase.
Often within a teaser trailer short clips of actors are seen, some may talk for most of the trailer, other companies chose to hardy have any form of speak to hide any giveaways or even the script itself as they wish to keep it a secret. The director picks the best clips within the film that does not give away any spoilers this is to make the audience want to see more.
By the likes of DC Comics 'Batman the Dark Night Rises', was known for its huge success when it came to releasing their teaser trailer- over 12.5 million views within twenty four hours watched the trailer. However this type of movie production has large budgets and as promotion is worth 50% it is vital that larger companies release a teaser trailer, however independent and smaller companies are unable to do so, their budget is smaller therefore do not have enough money to advertise their movie as much. With a Teaser trailer they are mainly found online rather than a theatrical as they are normally shown on TV, this is because teaser trailers are still in the production stage.
However with teaser trailers there is no set definition, meaning there is no real conventions within this type of trailer as there is many different forms of a teaser trailer.
Theatrical trailers are mainly released a few months before the actual film is released. The official trailers need to portray themselves the best they can, therefore by having already filmed the movie the company is able to put the best scenes within the trailer in order to give the film justices. Theatrical trailers much like the teaser has an aim to give the audience a taste of what is to be expected of the movie and as always spoilers are never show- this keeps viewers second guessing and reels them in to watch the film. UN-like the teaser trailers more words are spoken between actors and insights of fight scenes/ explosions mainly appear as the time frame is longer.
From studying both teaser and theatrical trailers I feel as though a creating a teaser would allow me to bring short clips of the unknown and fear into the trailer, I love the idea of only showing a short amount of filming as it makes the audience think more rather than give the plot away as a theatrical trailer often does. As my budget is one unlike most professional directors I feel that creating a lengthy theatrical trailer would not look at a high standard compared to a teaser trailer. Short and effected will draw people in.
